i thought GSA would call me at 7 but at 6 the phone rang. a mr john calcutt (the name i just saw on GSA website!) asked if he should call me lok yi or helen. he sounded as nervous as i was.

fortunately i have spent some time reading the prospectus (for the first time...) and preparing answers to questions that might come up. the interview lasted for about half an hour, and all were predictable, jing lo questions.

my english speaking was better than expected. didn't lur mai 1 gau (yesterday i couldn't even say "wikitopia" in one take. so damn embarrassing). the most difficult part was to explain my work, really gong dou 1 gau gau. i chose to talk about 1:1 construction and expired selves, and the guy (not mr calcutt) wanted to hear a bit more about the sai wan estate photos i took with krist.

those were all the questions you can normally think of. why study MFA instead of architecture, how architecture influenced you, which artists do you like, your weakness. when he asked if there're any curators or theorists that i liked, i said i honestly didn't know any because as mentioned earlier, my major weakness was the lack of art history knowledge and was not familiar with the context. but then currently i have also been working on a couple of media art projects myself, one on remixing videos, the other on free culture on the internet.

the last question was whether there's something about the city (Glasgow) that i liked. i said i actually visited Glasgow for 2 times, and the last time i also visited the campus of GSA. i liked the scale of the city as well as that of the school. i have friends who studied at GSA, and they all liked it. there're also quite a number of musicians from Glasgow that i liked, and that made me think that this should be a creative city.

"which musicians?" asked mr calcutt.

"Oh!" mr calcutt exclaimed.

i think my performance was ok but i don't know how strong the other candidates are. just talking about the programme GSA should be good, but studying there is also damn expensive. so so so expensive =/
