Friday, Mar. 09, 2007 9:41 p.m. came across this interesting project while researching on sound and architecture. in 1998 an artist group called [The User] started a sound project called Silophone. The project is still going on in an abandoned grain elevator in Montreal. the building has numerous storage chambers and each is basically a concrete cylinder of 30 metres tall and 8 metres wide. The acoustics inside the chambers is amazing, with a reverberation time up to over 20 seconds. By constructing some kind of telephone network, people all around the world would be able to listen to the incredible Silophone sounds even if they can't go to montreal. go to www.silophone.net to try it out. you can even upload your own sound clip and let Silophone play it. |
