my schedule: today - teaching kids at hong kong blind union wednesday - same thursday - blood test friday - hiking saturday - having lunch and taking pics for the kmlee thing next week: 8/8 - editorial meeting in school 9/8 - polyu 10/8 - notification of jupas result and teaching kids at blind union 11/8 - registration and stargazing 12/8 - stargazing and polyu 13/8 - birthday ------------------------------------- i bet everyone is curious about how the visually impaired people use the computer. today i went to the hong kong blind union centre in kwun tong. there were 4 visually impaired kids in the class and one parent. one kid was blind and the others were amblyopic. they had a software called windowslight which read out words when the cursor rolled over them. it's quite time-consuming to wait for windowslight to read the words out one by one, but it does help. there's a Ir machine under the keyboard. i don't know how it works and the kids didn't use it. basically it's of a row of keys with braille. the kids used mouse and keyboard as we do, but they have problem finding the cursor on screen. they had very poor typing skill too. only one could type with both hands. i introduced a few sites to them. my mum recommended etvonline to me, but the kids said they didn't like rthk programmes -_- i told them to go to the qsite. although all of them said they wouldn't listen to q, they were ok with that site. the blind boy played ͩR for a few times and pYlߨ for twice. the kids liked ͩR a lot. my legs are now broken... i've been walking and standing for hours this afternoon. my legs and backbone... everything is broken. by the way, i went to the doctor again yesterday. he advised me to have physiotherapy. gotta write something for the writing project, but i'm now exhausted. and i have to prepare for tomorrow's internet lesson -_- the kids are very yimy dik~ do you know any interesting multimedia sites? |
