Every life is a defense of a particular form.

For a couple of years in the 90s, we often saw a kind of epically long advertisement on TV. I wasn't sure if they were produced by the same company, but they definitely came in a standard format - extremely lengthy, a person (I think it's often a white foreigner) or a voiceover introducing a certain miraculous product in a very direct way, always ended with an order hotline.

Strangely, I think we all enjoyed these weird ads. They made you feel that an apple peeling machine was all that was needed to save your life, and that's how we ended up having one at home - one that had been used for only two times. I still remember the 3 of us (mum, brother and me) gathering around the machine, anxiously watching the 3 needles penetrate the apple stem, dad carefully lifting the peeler to fit the blade on the curved body of the apple, and how we lost interest in the machine overnight.
